2015 All-Star Stitches #39: Andrew McCutchen

30 05 2019

As a reminder, I went to the All-Star game and Home Run Derby in Cincinnati.  So I’m collecting this All-Star Stitches set!  These cards have swatches from the Monday practice festivities.

This is the 39th card toward this set.

Card number:  STIT-AM

Player:  Andrew McCutchen

How I got the card:  COMC in April

Position:  Center Field

How he made the roster: Cutch was voted as one of the 3 outfield reserves via the player ballot, and ended up replacing injured Giancarlo Stanton to be the Senior Circuit’s starting center fielder.

This was his 5th All-Star selection.  He hasn’t made the ASG since, though I think he’s got a chance in 2019.

First half stat line:  .295/12/56

All-Star game:  1-3 with a home run.  He led off the bottom of the first with a foul pop up against Dallas Keuchel, and struck out against Felix Hernandez in the third.  But he led off the bottom of the 6th with a homer off of Chris Archer that pulled the NL within 3-2.  He was replaced by A.J. Pollock after that inning.

2015 All-Star Stitches #38: Alcides Escobar

27 05 2019

Yes, I’m still around!  My wife and I had our third kid about a week ago and you’d think that would make me busy?  Well, it does, but for some reason I got the itch to do some baseball card blogging.  I got a bunch of 2015 All-Star cards for my collection on COMC a month ago.

As a reminder, I went to the All-Star game and Home Run Derby in Cincinnati.  So I’m collecting this All-Star Stitches set!  These cards that have swatches from the Monday practice festivities.

This is the 38th card toward this set.

Card number:  STIT-AE

Player:  Alcides Escobar

How I got the card:  COMC in April

Position:  Short Stop

How he made the roster:  Escobar was voted in by the fans to start at short.  He was one of 4 Royals to get that nod.

This was his 1st (and to date only) All-Star selection.

First half stat line:  .290/2/33

All-Star game:  1-2.  Escobar singled in his second AB to lead off the top of the 5th.  He was forced out at 2nd on Mike Trout’s at bat following him, though Trout came around to score to give the AL the lead at 2-1; this gave the AL the lead for good.  Jose Iglesias pinch hit for Escobar in the top of the 6th.
