2015 All-Star Stitches #12: Prince Fielder

8 04 2016

As a reminder, I went to the All-Star game and Home Run Derby in Cincinnati.  These cards that have swatches from the Monday practice festivities.  Fielder is my 12th card overall, and he’s my 4th Home Run Derby Participant.  Those are my favorite, because the swatch is from that event and I had more fun at the Monday derby than anything else associated with All-Star week!

2015 Topps Update All-Star Stitch Fielder

Card number:  STIT-PF

Player:  Prince Fielder

How I got the card:  One of 5 cards I just purchased this from COMC

Position:  Designated Hitter

How he made the roster:  Fielder was voted onto the team as a reserve by the MLB players.

This was his 6th All-Star selection (first with Texas).

First half stat line:  .339/14/54, .403 OBP, .521 SLG

Home Run Derby:  Fielder was the 7-seed in the derby; despite having an incredible first half, the only contestant he had more homers than at the break was Kris Bryant.  Fielder is the only player to win the Derby in both leagues, and he was a favorite to join Ken Griffey Jr. as the 2nd 3-time winner.  Fielder led off with 13 homers, which was the second most anyone hit in the first round.  Unfortunately, he ran into the guy with the most in hometown favorite Todd Frazier.  Frazier hit his 14th homer in extra time to advance.

All-Star game:  1-1, 2 RBI.  Fielder pinch hit for starter Nelson Cruz in the 5th, touching Clayton Kershaw for a single to score eventual MVP Mike Trout from 2nd base to break a 1-1 tie.  This would prove to be the game-winning RBI.  2 innings later he hit a sacrifice fly off Frankie Rodriguez to score Manny Machado.  Fielder could very easily have been selected as the game’s MVP.
