“Lost Cards”: The Year After, 1962

17 01 2014

1962

1962 Topps Ed Mathews

Best Player to retire in 1961.   Ted Kluszewski.

Did he have a 1962 card?   Yes – 1962 Post.

I’m being a bit liberal here – Big Klu didn’t have a 1962 Topps card, but he was featured on the 1962 Post card.  Not really mainstream, but it was licensed by MLB, regardless of the fact if the cards were cutouts from the back of a cereal box!

1962 Post Ted Kluszewski

Was a “retro” card ever produced?   No – Topps never created a 1962 card of Kluszewski, but I found this custom card from White Sox Cards.

Apologies to:   This isn’t the greatest “class” of retired guys – Earl Torgeson is the next best after Big Klu.  He didn’t have a wood-grained 1962 card either.
