“Lost Cards”: The Year After, 1960

15 01 2014

1960 Topps Whitey Ford

Best Player to retire in 1959.   Larry Doby (Hall of Famer).

Did he have a 1960 card?   No

After three straight Dodgers, starting with Jackie Robinson, the best player to retire in 1959 was Larry Doby, who broke the color barrier in the American League.

1959 Topps Larry Doby

Was a “retro” card ever produced?   No – Topps never created a Doby card from 1960.

Apologies to:   Enos Slaughter (Hall of Famer).  Like Doby, he didn’t have a 1960 Topps card.  I didn’t find any custom cards of those guys, but I did find one of Ron Santo, whose rookie card isn’t until 1961 – created by none other than the 6 degrees of Ron Santo blog!
