Best Player to retire in 1956. Jackie Robinson (Hall of Famer)
Did he have a 1957 card? No
Jackie’s last card was 1956 Topps.
Was a “retro” card ever produced? No – Topps never created a Robinson card from 1957.
He retired in January 1957 after being traded to the Giants. He retired instead of changing organizations. Topps did make a card for the National of him in a NY Giants uniform, but it’s in the 1959 Topps design, not 1957. There have been a couple of custom cards of the 1957 design made, but the best one I’ve seen was from the Dick Allen Hall of Fame blog. I actually wish there was one with the Dodgers, because it’s not like Robinson ever actually wore a Giants uniform!
Apologies to: Many Hall of Famers retired after the 1956 season. Bob Feller is the most notable other than Robinson. Phil Rizzuto, Monte Irvin are the others. All three had their last cards in the 1956 Topps set. Feller has a 1957 card that was issued as part of a Heritage promo for the 2007 National Convention. I don’t know of any 1957 Topps design retro cards for Irvin or Rizzuto.
