“Lost Cards”: The Year After, 1954

8 01 2014

1954 Topps Eddie Stanky

Best Player to retire in 1953.   Johnny Mize (Hall of Famer)

Did he have a 1954 card?   No

Mize had his last playing-day baseball card in 1953 Topps.

Was a “retro” card ever produced?   No – Topps never created a Mize card from 1954 Topps or Bowman sets.  I tried my hand at my first ever custom-made card.  Nothing too special – I may learn how to do this a little better in the future.  I couldn’t figure out how to get a signature moved on top of the card either, so I just did a fancy script :).  Still, a decent first attempt – I think 1954 Topps may be the most difficult set to do this with!

Apologies to:   Eddie Stanky, who unlike Mize did have a 1954 Topps card.  Like Boudreau, this was due to the fact he continued to manage the team after he retired (see above).
