Saturdays Suds: Baseball & Beer #2 – Old Milwaukee

14 07 2012

My second “Saturday Suds” – where I’ll post a beer that has something to do with baseball (or at least I’ll try to figure out some way to correlate it with baseball).

Brewery:  (Originally) Joseph Schlitz Brewing in (where else) Milwaukee, WI

Currently owned and brewed by Pabst Brewing Co., after being originally purchased by Stroh’s

Beer:  Old Milwaukee

Description:  An American dry lager – in other words, a pale colored, fizzy lager with little or no bitterness.  This used to be marketed as “America’s best tasting beer”, and I kind of remember it being better than Budweiser.

Medium:  I’ve had my share of these, though it’s been quite a while.  I’m pretty sure when I’ve had them in the past, they’ve tended to be from a can.  That seems like it’s how you should enjoy Old Milwaukee.

How it’s related to baseball:  In honor of the All-Star game being this week, Old Milwaukee had some commercials with a former AL MVP who’s now known as a pariah of the game.  These only aired in Kansas City.

“1985 was a good year for Kansas City.  Then everybody started cheating.”

“Some of us dragged the game through the mud, some of us had the stones to admit it”.
