1990 Topps ’90 Reds Cards

2 10 2011

Since 1990 is the season the Reds won the World Series, you’d expect 1990 and 1991 would have the most cards of the 26 team members (playoff roster & manager).  And you’d be correct.  Lou Piniella is still absent in the 1990 Topps set – his only WS title actually came in his first year as Reds manager.

Mariano Duncan and Luis Quinones were back after they had a year absence in the 1989 set.  Hal Morris, Joe Oliver and Scott Scudder had their first Topps cards in the 1990 set (all three had other ’89 RC’s).  So after 19 of the 26 were in 1989 Topps (with 2 subset cards), we’re now up to 24 of the 26 guys.  Davis also had an All-Star card – but only 1 subset card this year.  Only Piniella, and Billy Bates – who never had a Topps base card – are missing.  We’ll see in a few weeks if 1991 had more.

1990 – Jose Rijo, Danny Jackson, Tom Browning, Randy Myers, Norm Charlton, Rob Dibble, Jack Armstrong, Rick Mahler, Scott Scudder, Joe Oliver, Mariano Duncan, Barry Larkin, Chris Sabo, Billy Hatcher, Eric Davis, Paul O’Neill, Jeff Reed, Todd Benzinger, Ron Oester, Bill Doran, Luis Quinones, Herm Winningham, Glenn Braggs
